Description

The Speck - A Truly Tiny Handcrafted Bamboo Fly Fishing Net

Originally built for chasing wild trout in small mountain streams, the Speck is our most compact bamboo fly fishing hand net. Lightweight, easy to carry, and hand made to order in the USA by a fellow fly fishing junkie, this catch-and-release friendly landing net is designed for anglers headed out to fish tight Appalachian waters, blue-line creeks, and backcountry trout water.

The fish friendly rubber coated nylon net bag helps protect delicate trout by keeping the mucous layer intact (if you've ever wondered why fish are slimy, they have a protective coating that keeps them healthy and we aim to help keep them that way).

Each net is handcrafted from locally sourced bamboo and features copper stitching and a copper keeper ring that give each piece it's own character. No two nets are exactly the same. Our landing nets are built for anglers who appreciate traditional bamboo craftsmanship paired with a unique and functional design.

Best for small stream fly fishing, targeting wild brook trout, backcountry/blue-lining/backpacking trips, lightweight wading setups, and catch and release trout fishing.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo has long been valued in the fly fishing industry for it's strength, flexibility, and lightweight feel. The natural flex of bamboo creates a durable landing net that feels responsive in the hand when it comes time to land your next catch. Our bamboo is always locally sourced, never imported.

This is my second Hellbender net and I love this one as much as the first. The Speck is perfect for pursuing Brook Trout in Catskill and Adirondack Mountain headwaters. Excellent quality, distinctive looks, light and strong.

Excellent looking net, better than I had imagined.

The Speck

This is a great small net.I havnt landed any fish with it yet but I can tell it will be ideal for fish in the 6 to 12 in range, but will handle the occasional 14 or 15 incher. So this makes it perfect for most small creek fishing. It also has a unique look and feel that only comes from a hand mad product. Don't hesitate to pick up a Hellbender, they are awsome.

Calling all fly fishing enthusiasts, these nets are a must to complement your fishing experience! Handmade in ole USA by two good old boys! The in-hand feel and the craftsmanship is superior to any other net on the market. I now own two of these babies to replace my current, over priced made in China nets. I gave another to a buddy for a retirement gift! The price, quality, and the service is FISH ON! Make your fly fishing great again by purchasing gear made in the USA 🇺🇸! Brian

Great net for blue line fishing for native trout in the mountains of Pennsylvania. The size of the speck is awesome and the craftsmanship is amazing. It is a beautiful minimalist net. Love it and will order another in the future.

Working with JD and Bailly was a wonderful experience. They went above and beyond to rush my net as it was an anniversary gift for my husband (year 7 is copper). He loves it and can’t wait to get out and use it, unique and timeless. Thank you so much!

Store owner replied: Thank you for thinking of us on such a special day! Happy 7th and here's to many many more!

This net is so well made - I can’t wait to put it to use soon!

Store owner replied: Thank you, John!

Quality across the board! The Speck is extremely light, but don’t confuse that for lack of durability. It’s serious solidly built net. I got mine specifically for Blue Lining in Pennsylvania for native brookies, where often times you're fishing tight very technical overgrown streams. Where you need your gear to be very small and nimble as to not get hung up. This is a very purpose built net, that has filled a very important role in my fly fishing arsenal. Really couldn’t be more pleased with it!

Speck

Store owner replied: Thank you, Alex!!! We can't wait to see what you do with your new Speck. Keep us posted and best of luck out there with those beautiful brookies!
